At the bush camp over the Summer we have welcomed a mix of customers, something which Lydeard Farm is well suited too, as we have a very special and unique setting for many different type of groups.
We have had church groups, birthday parties, stag do’s and welcomed Bonas holiday camp for their mid week activity week. On the camping front we welcomed schools overnight as part of their D of E training. One highlight has to be the lovely Indian meal that was cooked for us by some of our guests!
Many groups enjoyed archery and air rifles on the farm under the expert guidance of our preferred activity provider Steve Bedford. Steve can also run a range of team building activities utilising the small pond and land across the farm.
We also had a new caterer for groups that didn’t want to do the cooking themselves and this went down well. We thoroughly recommend Laura’s Customised Catering for any future bookings wanting a catered option whether this be an evening buffet or breakfast, lunch and evening meal! All can be catered for in our kitchen at the Bush Camp
Rain during the Spring delayed the hay making but much of the 70 acres was cut to make some lovely hay for horses over the winter.
Talking of horses all the National Hunt boys came home for the holidays and Summer rest with them all having at least 6 weeks following one of our most successful season of racing.
Gingerbread
Gingerbread was back for his Summer holidays first after his best Winter of racing.
🥇 x 1
🥈 x 2
🥉 x 1

Longshanks, aka Gary
After a change in yard and having took a step back to point to point winning both his races Longshanks then went hurdling and placed every race apart from one!
🥇 x2 point to points
🥈 x 2
🥉 x 2
Freedie Fleetfoot
Freddie is not much bigger than a pony and had 5 runs this season, his best yet. He was un-lucky to not nail a win.
🥈x2
4th x 1
Thanks Brian Phipps for some great photos
Bruce Gobbler
Having started his racing career over hurdles but failing to get the hang of it, (he’s only a baby!) a change in yard and a move to point 2 point to gain experience paid off.
Bruce won 🥇 his first maiden at one of the final point to points of the season.
From the Heart
Pablo had his second year of point to pointing for the 10 year old saw two 🥇 and two 🥈 plus his spot at Cheltenham Festival in the hunter chase. He even made the leader board for leading horse within the Devon & Cornwall Area.
Ever consistent, with the varying ground conditions from a wet season hampering this years results.
From the Heart has now been retired and I’m am looking forward to retaining him and taking part in some Retraining of Racehorses competitions.
Charity
Every year we complete a charity challenge and this year was no different. Myself and Kieran along with my Aunite and Uncle completed a mammoth challenge for local Burnham On Sea Charity BARB that support the coast and inland during emergency situations.
We cycled just over 200 miles in one day from sunrise in Minster On Sea on the East Coast to sunset in Weston Super Mare. A different challenge which was testing in may ways. We set off at 4.52am and reached the pier at Weston just past 10.30pm.
Wildlife continues to flourish on the farm we have had a fox set, many red deer and lots of different types of birds, and flora. We get to share the beautiful environment that we have here in our peaceful and tranquil spot of the Quantock Hills.
So as Summer comes to an end and Autumn we still have a few weeks left of the bush camp with it closing for 2024 on 3 November and we have some last minute availability.
Bookings for 2025 are also now available and we open on 21 March right through to the beginning of November. Please contact us for a bespoke quote.
We offer exclusive use with only one group/ party here at a time. Minimum 8 guests, maximum 56 guests across 5 lodges. Extra capacity available with camping.
