Arrival to the bush camp

Tucked away in a private valley in the Quantock Hills, Somerset, Lydeard Farm Bush Camp & Lodges isn’t your typical countryside getaway. It’s a place where groups come together, switch off from the noise of everyday life, and reconnect — with nature and each other.

So what does a weekend here actually feel like? Let’s take you through it.

Friday arriving and settling in

You arrive late afternoon, winding through the Somerset countryside before turning into Lydeard Farm. Within 20 minutes from the motorway, it becomes clear: this place is properly off-grid.

The lodges are nestled in their own secluded valley, surrounded by 70 acres of countryside — and for the entire weekend, it’s exclusively yours.

No other guests. No crowds. Just your group.

After a warm welcome from your hosts Sarah & Kieran, you settle into your lodge — simple, comfortable, and designed for groups. Think bunk rooms for laughter-filled nights, flexible layouts for families or friends, and everything you need without unnecessary fuss.

As evening sets in, everyone gathers at the Bush Camp Shelter — a shared indoor space with a fully equipped kitchen, long dining tables, and a log burner for that cosy, communal feel.

Dinner is whatever you make it: a big group meal, a relaxed buffet, or even a catered feast if you’ve arranged it.

Then comes the highlight — the outdoor BBQ and campfire. As the stars come out, stories get shared, drinks are poured, and the pace of life slows right down.

Cosy indoor wood burner.

Saturday: Adventure, Relaxation & Proper Time Together

Wake up to birdsong and fresh countryside air.

There’s no Wi-Fi here — and that’s kind of the point.

Mornings usually start slow: coffee outside your lodge, breakfast cooked together, maybe a stroll through the surrounding hills.

From there, the day is yours to shape.

You might:

  • Head out walking in the Quantock Hills

  • Book activities like archery, rifle shooting or team building fun

    on-site

  • Play games on the open grass pitch (affectionately known as “Wembley”)

  • Or simply do… nothing at all

Lydeard Farm is designed for flexibility — whether you want a structured activity weekend or a completely relaxed escape.

Lunch rolls into an afternoon of downtime: reading, chatting, exploring, or just enjoying the quiet.

By evening, the group naturally comes back together again. Another shared meal, another fire, and that rare feeling of having nowhere else to be.

Sunday: Slow Mornings & Farewells

Sunday mornings here are unhurried.

A final breakfast. A few last walks. Maybe one more coffee overlooking the valley.

With checkout late morning, there’s just enough time to soak it all in before packing up and heading home — usually with plans already forming for the next visit.

Why Weekends Here Feel Different

What makes Lydeard Farm stand out isn’t luxury in the traditional sense — it’s the space, the exclusivity, and the freedom.

  • Exclusive use: your group is the only one on site

  • Room for everyone: from 8 up to 56 guests across five lodges. Extra capacity with camping

  • Flexible stays: self-catered, catered, active or relaxed

  • A true digital detox: minimal signal, no distractions

It’s a place built for connection — whether that’s a family gathering, a celebration, a team retreat, or simply a weekend away with friends.

The Takeaway

A weekend at Lydeard Farm isn’t about ticking off attractions or sticking to an itinerary.

It’s about space. Simplicity. Shared moments.

And by the time you leave, it doesn’t feel like just a weekend away — it feels like time well spent.
