Access Statement

Lydeard Farm Bush Camp and Lodges is nestled within the beautiful rural countryside, offering a unique outdoor experience in a tranquil setting. Whilst we are keen to welcome all guests due to our rural location we may not be suitable for all guests particularly those with mobility issues.

Location and Directions

Lydeard Farm is located in equal distance from Taunton or Bridgwater in Somerset. We are accessible by road, and by inputting our postcode, TA5 2EG will bring your directly to the entrance. Detailed directions can be found on our website.

Parking

We have a designated parking area at the end of the lodges on a hard core grass area with a slight slope.  For those camping we will show you where to park. Parking is free for all guests. To access the parking is a mixture of tarmac and gravel road ways.

Access to lodges

The farm is within a countryside setting and rolling hills. Access around the lodges is via grass relatively flat from the car park end onto barked pathway. When accessing the lodges from the bush camp shelter there are a number of steps which could be difficult for those with mobility issues. Or there is a grass slope which is fairly steep for those with mobility issues and may be slippery when wet.

Access to the lodges is via two steps onto a wooden decking at the front of the lodges. Only Adscoombe Lodge has a ramp to the side.

Each lodge has a doorway lip meaning it can be difficult to access with a wheelchair. The lip is of contrast colour.

Adscoombe lodge has a larger shower and toilet room which is suitable for guests with some disabilities and features a pull down handle aid and adjustable shower. However please ask for further information and we will happily send you a video.

The door width to all doors in the lodges are standard width.

Access to the Bush Camp Shelter

The bush camp shelter is accessed via a gentle grass slope. It is suggested that an off road style wheelchair would be required to aid grip and comfort.

The door to the bush camp is slightly wider than you have with a standard at home door.

The flooring within the shelter is flat and concrete.

Outside the front of the bush camp shelter is a gravel area with bench seating.

Access to the kitchen is via a standard width door. Counter height is similar to what you have at home. Note there are some cupboards at shoulder height.

Camp Fire/ BBQ area

Is located near the bush camp shelter and is on a gravel base. The height of the BBQ is similar to a kitchen work top height you would get at home.

Steps to the lodges

Steps are carved out within the tree down towards the lodges from the bush camp shelter. There are around a 12 steps. Those with visual impairment therefore may need assistance. The step edge is comprised of a wooden log.  There is not a handrail in all sections. Lighting is limited due to its rural location and the use of a torch is strongly recommended.

Toilets at the bush camp

There are eco toilets need the bush camp which are access via sloped grass. These have a standard toilet seat and no flush. There is no accessible toilet within this area.

Camping showers

There are 4 unisex showers. They are accessed via a grass slope. The showers are not adjustable in height, there are no mobility aids provided.

Access for activities

The grass sports pitch is accessed from the gravel road as you drive in towards the bush camp.

To access the archery area for pre booked activity is a moderate steep walk on grass.

To access the gun range for the air rifle pre booked activity is on a grass slope where you are walking across the slope so therefore may be difficult for those with mobility issues.

Where arranged in advance we may be able to offer vehicle transport in our own vehicle to assist. It is not possible to drive your own vehicle.
